Social Media Intelligence – Al-Shabab’s use of Twitter
Case Study: IHS Jane
The case study is a response to requests received from government agencies around the world for detailed analysis of how Al-Shabab has been using Twitter to engage a global, particularly English-speaking audience. IHS has pursued this research as part of an ongoing programme of development of social media intelligence capabilities and optimisation for use by both IHS analysts and national security clients.
Whilst much qualitative analysis is being undertaken by the analyst community, to date there has been little empirical analysis aimed at establishing the reach and influence of Twitter communications. IHS is pleased to bring you the first of this type of cutting-edge analysis.
