John Teufert has been working as the NATO’s Communications and Information Agency senior GeoMetOc Subject Matter Expert (SME) and GeoMetOcGroup Head since 2003. Before joining NATO he worked for the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy and before that he spent several years with the WEU (later EU) Council’s Satellite Centre in Madrid,Spain, the only Pan-European Imagery-Intelligence Organisation. In his current function he is responsible for the execution of NATO’s ambitious GeoMetOcR&D program as well as NATO’s GeoMetOc systems acquisitions and implementations.In addition he and his team provide a wide variety of high level GeoMetOctechnical and scientific support to all NATO bodies to succeed with their missions, including significant in-theatre support to NATO Forces in Kosovo and Afghanistan. Over the last years Mr Teufert has deployed more than 40 times into operations which allowed him to stay in close contact with the real needs of the war-fighter. His work in NATO has been recognised through the receipt of the “USGIF Geospatial Intelligence Achievement Award 2009 (Military Division)”and more recently the “JCTD Transition Manager of the year 2011” awarded by the Office of the US Secretary of Defence.
