Richard is responsible for designing open-source intelligence (OSINT) solutions for use by defence, intelligence and law enforcement clients, with a particular focus on terrorism and violent extremism.

He was previously the founder and Director of Scanner Associates, a counter-extremism knowledge consultancy. He specialized in the study of violent extremism, specifically violent extremist ideology,extremist strategic communication and activism and the use of strategic communication to counter violent extremism.

Richard continues to work with a range of public sector organizations, both foreign and domestic, to improve their understanding violent extremist ideology and activism, specifically that of radical Islamist and Islamist extremist movements and the narratives and methods used by extremists to radicalise and mobilize an audience.
